مارسيل شهوارو

Biography

Marcell Shehwaro is a Syrian Christian activist, writer, and civil society leader who was born in Aleppo and remained in the city until it became impossible to stay. She co-founded and directed Kesh Malek, a Syrian civil society organization working in northern Syria on education, governance, and humanitarian response. She documented the Aleppo siege from the inside through social media and writing, becoming one of the most powerful Syrian voices internationally about what was happening in her city. Her essays and posts — written in both Arabic and English — combined personal testimony with political analysis and were widely shared during the siege. She was eventually forced to leave Aleppo and continued her civil society work from exile. She represents the Syrian Christian civic engagement with the revolution and the human cost of choosing to stay and document.
