Biography

Suheil al-Hassan, known as 'The Tiger' (النمر), is a Syrian Arab Army general who became the regime's most effective field commander during the civil war. An Alawite from Tartus, he commanded the Tiger Forces — a Special Operations unit that grew into an elite rapid-reaction force — and led major offensive operations including the recapture of Aleppo (2016), campaigns in Hama, Deir ez-Zor, and southern Syria. Unlike Assad's other generals, al-Hassan cultivated a charismatic public image, appearing at the front lines in propaganda videos. He remains a significant figure in what remains of the Syrian military establishment after the regime's 2024 collapse.
